PENDLETON, Ore.- UPDATE. September 29, 3:38 p.m. According to Oregon State Police, one person is dead following a crash on I-84
According to OSP, at 800 p.m. on September 28, OSP responded to a car crash involving two commercial vehicles.
An initial investigation found that a 49-year-old man from Renton Washington was operating a semi-truck and traveling in the slow lane of Eastbound I-84.
The Renton man then hit the rear-end of a Peterbilt semi-truck operated by a 20-year-old from Hermiston Oregon.
The truck operated by the Renton man then caught fire after the crash.
According to OSP, the fire was so severe that the truck was initially unidentifiable.
The driver was taken out of the truck and transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead according to OSP.
According to OSP, the 20-year-old driver of the Peterbilt truck was not injured.
According to OSP, the highway was closed for six hours while the scene was investigated.
OSP was assisted by the Umatilla Tribal Police Department Umatilla Tribal Fire Department and ODOT.
September 29. I-84 eastbound in Eastern Oregon is reopened for traffic as of 5:00 a.m.
According to the Oregon Department of Transportation eastbound lanes were closed between Exit 216 east of Pendleton to Exit 265 east of La Grande from before 9 p.m. last night until this morning due to a truck crash near milepost 226.

According to the Oregon Department of Transportation, eastbound I-84 is closed.
A crash has closed eastbound I-84 at Exit 216 seven miles east of Pendleton.
There is no estimated time of reopening.
