Granger homicide victim identified, investigation ongoing

GRANGER, Wash.-The dead body found in a wrecked car on Indian Church Rd on September 28 has been identified and the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office is now conducting a homicide investigation.

The driver found in the car has been identified as 19-year-old Anthony Govanny Mendoza-Salazar from Granger according to the YCSO. An autopsy is expected to be performed soon.

YCSO Deputies were initially dispatched to the report of a car crash in the area of Indian Church Rd. and SR 223. According to the YCSO, while Deputies were en route they were called to the 100 block of Schuster Rd. for reports of a shooting.

Deputies arrived at the accident and found Mendoza-Salazar’s body in an overturned car in a ditch.

According to the YCSO the victim’s family reported that he had been shot while driving before wrecking the car.

UPDATE:

According to Casey Schilperoort with the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office, Indian Church Rd is closed for a homicide investigation.

According to YCSO, gunshots were reported at Indian Church Road and West Schuster Road.

Shortly after a car crash was reported at Indian Church Road and State Route 223.

According to YCSO these events are believed to be related.

Indian Church Road will remain closed while the homicide is being investigated.
