YAKIMA, Wash.-Yakima Valley College is hosting a presentation on the diverse history of the Yakima Valley on Nov. 17 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Raymond Hall Library.

The presentation, put on by Yakima Valley Library Archivist Librarian, Carlos Pelley, and his assistant Archives Librarian, Matt Kendall, highlights marginalized voices in the narrative of the Yakima Valley.

“Frankly, I feel like I learn something new every time I search for stories of diverse history,” said Kendall. “There are so many stories to enrich the general narrative.”

Pelley and Kendall created the presentation from over 50 primary and secondary sources, using the YVL archives and working with local historians.

According to the YVL, the presentation will include immigration, legal, sports, labor, and farmer history from diverse perspectives, including African American, Filipino, Japanese, Latino, LGBTQIA+, and female experiences. “

An interactive question and answer session will follow the presentation.
