Weather concerns lead to delay of phase two at Syringa Park

MISSOULA, Mont. – Missoula’s only progressive bike park, Syringa Park, is ready to launch phase two which will see clay hills added to the neighborhood park where bikers can catch some air and go off roading.

Plans have been ongoing since 2016 for this first-of-its-kind bike park. This park is dedicated to Tanner J Olsen, who was a local Missoula kid who had a passion for all things biking and BMX.

Phase one for Syringa Park was to design skill loops that are currently open, and phase two, the jump line fly zone, where riders can hang free and catch some air while riding was supposed to open this week, but the ground is mostly clay and Mother Nature may be causing some issues.

“We’ve got something like three quarters of an inch of rain forecasted in the next three to four days. That’s not suitable to open the pump tracks. So, we are going to delay the opening until early next week, and so we anticipate with the consistent warm sunny weather, that we will be opening, and folks will be out here very soon,” said Conservation Lands Manager for Missoula Parks & Recreation, Jeff Gicklhorn.

Parks & Rec want to be consistent in their message to the public. They don’t want to launch the jump line phase two and close it twelve hours later due to rain.

In the future, Missoula Parks & Rec plan on keeping the jump lines open at Syringa Park for the duration of the summer.

However, for now, phase two is delayed for safety. So, Missoula riders will have to wait just a little longer.
