Richland, Wash.— Richland Police Department was responding to a call of a person under the influence at Columbia Park Trail/Columbia Center Blvd.

When officers with RPD arrived the suspect began driving away. One of the officers attempted to stop the driver with a PIT maneuver, that’s when the driver crashed into the RPD officer on scene.

The suspect had two passengers who are minors. The Richland Police officer was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for minor injuries. According to a Facebook post from Richland Police, the suspect is booked into the Benton County Jail on suspicion of DUI, eluding and other possible charges.

The investigation is being taken over by the Benton County Sheriff’s Office. RPD says the deputies investigating are working to find a relationship between the 40-year-old male driver and two female minors.

Richland Police say BCSO, Kennewick PD, Washington State Patrol, Richland Fire Department and Richland City Street Department were on scene.

This is still a developing story and we will update the article as information becomes available.
