WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The Line of Duty Death Memorial Service for Walla Walla Fire Department Engineer Paramedic Ryan Pleasants is set for Jan. 27 at the Walla Walla Community College Dietrich Activity Center.

Pleasants was found dead while on duty on Sun., Jan. 7. His cause of death was determined to be a “significant cardiac event,” according to a press release from the City of Walla Walla.

Prior to the service, over 25 apparatus from 17 different agencies will be in a procession that will drive down Main Street from Walla Walla Fire Station 1 then head east to the college on East Issacs Avenue.

The community should expect road closures and delays in downtown Walla Walla during the procession, which will take place between 11:30 a.m. and noon. The community is also invited to watch the procession along the route.

As the procession arrives at the Dietrich Activity Center, the Caisson, which is holding family and personal effects, will drive under the ladder truck arch and the flag. Other apparatus will park in their section of the parking lot.

The service is scheduled for 1 p.m. A helicopter flyover is also scheduled for just after noon over the college.

The public is welcome to attend the service, however seating will be limited. The service will also be livestreamed on the Walla Walla Fire Department’s Facebook page.

The service is expected to take two hours. WWFD requests that the public does not take pictures during the service.
