Firefighters were called to rescue a hapless puppy who got its head stuck – in a garden wall.

Jeremey, a four-month-old Beagle, had been exploring his back garden when he got his head firmly wedged between several bricks on Tuesday morning (7/5).

His owner called the fire service after spending 30 minutes trying unsuccessfully to free the stricken pooch at the property in Stourbridge, West Mids.

A crew from West Midlands Fire Service attended the scene around four minutes later and were able to free Jeremy to reunite him unharmed with his relieved owner.

Watch manager Brett Mortimer said: “We deal with all manner of incidents and a job like this is about quick-thinking and care of the animal.

“It only took us around a minute to release Jeremy.

“We wrapped a protective cover around his head and ears and freed him using manual manipulation.

“I’m proud of my team, who showed quick-thinking to help an animal in distress.

“Despite his ordeal, Jeremy is said to be doing well at home.

“There was no obvious sign of injury, and he was in good spirits when we left the scene.”

Footage showing poor Jeremy in his predicament was sent from the scene to Staffordshire and West Midlands Fire Control.

Callers are sent a mobile phone link which allows them to stream images so call handlers can decide how to best allocate resources.

Sharing details of the rescue on Twitter, the service wrote: “Canine-nine-nine!

“Stourbridge Fire Station firefighters were quickly on the scene and freed him unharmed, reuniting the four-month-old with his owner!”
