Suspect dead after shots fired at Gum St. and Elliot Lake in Kennewick

KENNEWICK, Wash. –

UPDATE 3:32 p.m.

According to Kennewick Police Department Commander Clem, the suspect in the shooting is dead.

Clem says the suspect’s death is believed to be a suicide however an autopsy will confirm later.

Roads are reportedly blocked in the area of S. Gum Street and Elliot Lake in Kennewick and a large law enforcement presence is in the area.

According to Kennewick PD Commander Clem, a resident in the area reported seeing a suspect matching the description of the man wanted by Kennewick PD walking into the canyon.

When law enforcement attempted to contact the suspect shots were reportedly fired, according to Commander Clem. The suspect is reportedly still in the canyon and people are asked to avoid the area.

Kennewick, Pasco and Richland Police, Pasco and Kennewick Fire and the Benton and Franklin County Sheriff’s Offices are all on scene.
