KENNEWICK, Wash. – A brush fire burned about two acres of Columbia Park on Wed., April 3, according to Kennewick Fire Department Chief Chad Michael.

Michael says a call came in at around 2:20 p.m. reporting a fire in Richland, however it turned out to be in Kennewick east of the REACH Museum between Columbia Park Trail and SR 240.

The Richland Fire Department responded with KFD to find a fire that was slowly spreading. The fire was controlled and put out around 3:30 p.m.

Michael says no buildings were threatened by the fire and no one was injured. Fire crews will stay at the park to put out hot spots and ensure that the fire remains out.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by KFD.

Michael urges for the community to not fall into a false sense of security especially as temperatures rise, noting that fires can spread easily due to the amount of wind in the area.
