YAKIMA, Wash.-Yakima Neighborhood Health Services has expanded its Advanced Practice Provider residency program to include Physician Associates/Assistants.

“This program will now equip new physician associates as well as family nurse practitioners with the skills they need to care for underserved populations,” said Rhonda Hauff, Chief Executive Officer of YNHS.

The new residency program will provide intensive training in both the clinical complexity of family practice in the safety net/rural setting, and training in the patient centered medical home model for primary care, according to YNHS.

The Physician Associates/Assistants residency will increase access to quality primary care for underserved, rural and special populations, including addressing targeted needs of agricultural workers, people experiencing homelessness, and residents of public housing.

The expanded residency program will provide new family nurse practitioners with the training necessary to serve as primary care providers in the complex setting of the country’s federally qualified health centers, according to YNHS.

More information on the new Physician Associates/Assistants Residency Program is available through Yakima Neighborhood Health Services at npresidency@ynhs.org or chris.newman@ynhs.org.
