Visit Tri-Cities presents tourism, service awards at annual luncheon

TRI-CITIES, Wash.-The Tri-Cities Airport and Outdoor Adventure Rentals were presented with tourism and service awards by Visit Tri-Cities on November 1.

Visit Tri-Cities presents the Kris Watkins Tourism Champion of the Year Award based on an organization’s dedication to the tourism industry and their continued promotion of the region as a premier tourism destination.

The 2023 Kris Watkins Tourism Champion of the Year Award was presented to the Tri-Cities Airport for quickly returning to pre-pandemic levels of flyers, attracting more airlines and another airport hotel according to a Visit Tri-Cities press release.

“The forward looking leadership at the Tri-Cities Airport continues to make it a significant contributor to our visitor economy,” said Kevin Lewis, President and CEO of Visit Tri-Cities. “The friendly staff and efficient operations set a welcoming tone to our visitors.

Airport Director Buck Taft and Port Commission President Vicki Gordon accepted the award on behalf of the Airport.

The Tri-Cities Airport is focusing on serving the Tri- Cities community through renovations, collaborations, and the promotion of local arts and sports. According to a Visit Tri-Cities press release on the awards, $110 million will be invested in future terminal projects at the airport over the next 10-15 years.

Outdoor Adventure Rentals was also presented with the 2023 Excellence in Service Award at Visit Tri-Cities 54th annual luncheon.

Presented by Battelle, the 239 nominees for the service award were judged on criteria that included, the ability to serve as an example to others, provide exemplary customer service, and create a memorable visitor experience.

Tommie and Ester Oatis, owners of Oatis Adventure Rentals received the award for their genuine culture, customer service and contributions to the local tourism industry.

“Oatis Outdoor Adventure Rentals provides easy to access recreational opportunities in the area, and they do it with the genuine blend of helpful enthusiasm,” said Lewis. “Oatis is a perfect representation of the excellence in service visitors hope for.”
