Two mini-pitches to open at MLK, Jr. Elementary in Union Gap

UNION GAP, Wash.-Two new soccer mini-pitches are set to be opened at Martin Luther King, Jr Elementary School on September 22.

The mini-pitches were made possible by the Seattle Sounders FC and the RAVE Foundation, an organization dedicated to the promotion of free-play that plans to build 26 fields in communities with limited access by 2026, according to a press release on the opening of the fields.

An opening ceremony featuring representatives from RAVE, the Yakima School District, the Sounders, the Mexican Consul in Seattle and Washington Youth Soccer will take place at 2:00 p.m.

The mini-pitches feature a portrait of Martin Luther King Jr. created by celebrated artist Teddy “Stat” Phillips and students will participate in art-making activities inspired by the life and teachings of Martin Luther King Jr. after the opening ceremonies for the pitches according to a Sounders press release on the opening.
