BENTON COUNTY, Wash. – A truck transporting a horse trailer caught fire south of Kennewick on Thursday, according to Benton County Fire District 1.

A driver on I-82 reported at 12:18 p.m. that a truck was on fire with a horse trailer attached driving eastbound on I-82.

BCFD1 crews arrived to find the truck fully involved near milepost 121 between Coffin Road and Locust Grove Road.

Drivers who had stopped helped the truck’s driver disconnect the trailer, which was carrying horses. Crews then worked to put out the fire and prevent flames from spreading to nearby grasses.

Eastbound lanes of I-82 were closed for an hour. No humans or horses were injured, according to BCFD1.
