New funding will help Farm to Fork expand at WWCC

WALLA WALLA, Wash.-Walla Walla Community College has received a grant and a gift to expand its Farm to Fork Program.

WWCC has received a $200,000 grant from the Port of Walla Walla, as well as a $100,000 gift from a private donor, according to a press release from the college.

“WWCC truly appreciates the support this program and our students have received from our community partners,” said Matt Williams, Plant & Soil Science Instructor at WWCC.

The funding will allow WWCC to continue development of its Farm to Fork program designed to provide students with knowledge and experience in the region’s evolving agriculture and culinary sector, according to the college.

WWCC launched the program that includes the production of vegetables, herbs and livestock on campus, where the food is harvested, prepared and served at the Titus Creek Bistro, Capstone Kitchen and other campus events about two years ago.

The new funding will enable WWCC to build a new 48 X 72-foot shop to increase instructional, storage and low-stress livestock handling space, according to the college.

“It’s very important for students to learn about food production from the start – the planting and raising animals – all the way through to the table,” said Williams.
