Lewis Street Overpass to open for public use following drive-over

PASCO, Wash. – The Lewis Street Overpass is opening to the public on Fri., April 26, starting with a drive-over featuring local businesses.

The creation of the overpass follows a 2000 study recommending the concept, especially after the not ADA-compliant and “functionally obsolete” Lewis Street Underpass.

“The Lewis Street Overpass not only facilitates smoother travel across our city but also enhances safety and accessibility for all residents, including those with disabilities,” said Interim Public Works Director Maria Serra. “This project represents a significant leap forward in our commitment to building a more connected and accessible community in Pasco.”

The City of Pasco says the new overpass features wide and ADA-compliant sidewalks and bicycle lanes, allows for more economic growth and enhances urban mobility.

The City notes that while the overpass will be open for traffic, final touches still need to be completed. A formal ribbon-cutting celebration will take place later in 2024.

The drive-over starts at noon at the intersection of Second Avenue and Lewis Street.
