KENNEWICK, Wash. – A Kennewick man was sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to firearm possession as a felon and possession of heroin with intent to distribute, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Washington (DOJ).

Kyle Keith Trapp, 61, will spend 78 months, or six and a half years, in prison followed by three years of supervised release.

Per court documents shown at Trapp’s sentencing, an assault victim arrived at a hospital in the Tri-Cities on Jan. 7, 2023 with several missing teeth. He reported to law enforcement that several people beat him and accused him of stealing drugs from Trapp.

Officers got a search warrant for Trapp’s home where they found 18 firearms, including five shotguns, eight rifles and five handguns.

Two firearms had unknown serial numbers while another was a “ghost gun,” or a privately built firearm.

Ammunition and miscellaneous gun parts were found as well, along with 300 grams of heroin, nine grams of meth, drug paraphernalia and other substances, according to DOJ.

Trapp said that the assault happened at his home and admitted to detectives that he was distributing heroin and trading guns for drugs. He also admitted that he was prohibited from possessing guns due to a prior felony.

According to court documents, Trapp has a history of sentences dating back to 1993 with charges including assault, theft, controlled substance possession and more.

“This case is an example of the culture of violence and dangerous behavior which surrounds drug distribution,” said U.S. Attorney Vanessa Waldref. “Mr. Trapp had drugs, and more than a dozen illegal firearms, including a ghost gun, stashed at his house. My office will continue to target violent offenders who threaten the safety of our communities.”
