GRANDVIEW, Wash.-The first roundabout in the lower Yakima Valley is set to open in Grandview on September 26, a month ahead of schedule.

The roundabout at the eastside entrance to Grandview is at the intersection of Wine County Road and McCreadie Road.

Grandview will host an opening ceremony at 10:00 a.m. on September 26 for the roundabout that is expected to improve the safety of freeway access and the flow of traffic in and out of the city according to a press release on the opening.

“We want our city’s entrances to be safe and beautiful for attracting new businesses and consumers” said Grandview Mayor Gloria Mendoza.

The opening ceremony will include a demonstration by Police on how to correctly and legally navigate the roundabout and Grandview City Officials will be available to answer any questions on the project.

The final touches to the roundabout, including the installation of lights, a fountain and a flagpole in the center island are expected to be completed in the next 12-14 weeks according to the City of Grandview.

The roundabout project was identified as a priority project through a Grandview economic development plan. The City expects the roundabout and other infrastructure in the area to open up an additional 34 acres of commercial property.

Funding for the $2.5 million roundabout project was secured through leveraging City funds to procure State Transportation Improvement Board grants.

The city of Grandview provided 22% of project costs according to a press release on the roundabout and leveraged the other $1.9 million of the cost.
