Grandview sophomore wins 2024 Congressional Art Competition

WASHINGTON, D.C.-The winners of the 2024 Congressional Art Competition for high school students in Washington’s 4th District were announced on May 9.

Destiny Lepe, a 10th grader at Grandview High won for her painting “Grand-view,” while Davis High senior Ruby Morales Soto finished second with “A Snails Mission” and Ivonne Oropeza, a junior at Grandview came in third for “Seven.”

“Destiny’s painting showcases the beautiful landscape of the Lower Yakima Valley, and I look forward to seeing it every day hanging in our nation’s capital,” Rep. Newhouse said in announcing the winners.

The second and third place winners will be on display in the Yakima district office.

“Grand-view” is an acrylic painting of the Lower Yakima Valley featuring a river, mountain and hop fields. It will hang in the U.S. Capitol for a year along with winners from across the nation, according to a press release on the artwork from Rep. Newhouse’s Office.
