WEST RICHLAND, Wash. – A former Yakima police officer is charged with second-degree rape of a child, according to court documents NonStop Local obtained. The Benton County Prosecutors Office tells NonStop Local Elias Huizar has been officially charged with rape.

The Yakima Police Department said Huizar worked as a police officer for almost nine years, from June 2013 to February 2022.

According to the court documents, Huizar was arrested earlier this month after his underage girlfriend caught him assaulting her 16-year-old friend in his home.

The documents say the two girls left the home after Huizar’s girlfriend confronted him.

She took the key to his car because she couldn’t find her keys. She and her friend drove to the area of 1st and Kennedy Road in Benton City.

Documents say that Huizar followed the two teenagers when his girlfriend saw a Benton County Sheriff’s Office Deputy and asked him for help. The documents say Huizar left the area.

The court documents say the deputy with BCSO contacted West Richland Police to inform them the two teens were reporting a crime.

They said BCSO told the WRPD officer one of the teenagers appeared to be a victim of a sexual assault, and the driver had witnessed it.

The documents said law enforcement went to Huizar’s home and he refused to come out. SWAT was called in, and after two hours, he was arrested.

When officers entered the house, it appeared Huizar was cleaning the sheets one of the teenagers was sleeping on.

The documents go on to say Huizar met one of the victims when she was 15 years old, and a relationship formed.

According to the documents, she became pregnant with Huizar’s child and gave birth at 16 years old.

On Feb. 15, Huizar is being arraigned, according to the Benton County Prosecutor’s Office.

The Prosecutor’s Office told NonStop Local Huizar is not in custody because he was able to make bail, and he is also being charged with a second count of rape of a child in the third degree.
