RICHLAND, Wash. – The Richland Police Department placed a man on a 72-hour investigative hold on multiple charges following an alleged crime spree from Monday, according to RPD.

RPD says a handgun was reported missing from a vehicle parked at a business on Harding Street Monday evening. At least ten burglaries followed with businesses on Lee Boulevard, Wellsian Way and Stevens Drive being targeted.

Officers initially thought the suspect was using a handgun to shoot windows to get into businesses.

The next morning, dayshift officers picked up the investigation. An officer reportedly found a suspicious person in front of a Richland Rite Aid openly smoking fentanyl.

RPD says the man was apprehended and searched. The officer found a handgun on the man which was later confirmed to match the missing handgun from the night before.

Police say the suspect is now on a 72-hour investigative hold for charges of unlawful firearm possession, stolen firearm possession and use of a controlled substance in a public place.

The investigation is ongoing. Several felony charges related to the burglaries are forthcoming.
