Former Mariners manager Lou Piniella finalist for Hall of Fame

COOPERSTOWN, N.Y.-Former Mariners Manager Lou Piniella is a 2024 finalist for the Baseball Hall of Fame.

The Hall of Fame announced the eight Contemporary Era Finalists of executives, managers and other baseball contributors, including Piniella, on October 19.

Piniella managed in the majors for 23 seasons, compiling an 840-711 record over 10 seasons with the Mariners from 1993 to 2002.

According to a Mariners press release on Piniella making the Hall of Fame ballot, his overall managerial record of 1,835 wins compiled at the helm of five clubs ranks 17th most all-time. Over 18 seasons as a player in the majors, Piniella batted .291 and recorded 1,705 hits.

The 16-member Contemporary Era Committee will vote on the 8 finalists at the MLB Winter Meetings in December. To be inducted into the Hall of Fame finalists must receive at least 75 percent of the vote according to the Hall of Fame.
