RICHLAND, Wash.-A Ben Franklin Transit bus driver is being honored for her efforts performing CPR on a woman who had stopped breathing at the bus transfer station this summer.

Vanessa Walsh will receive the Above and Beyond Award from the Washington State Transit Insurance Pool at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 12 at the BFT Board of Directors meeting at the Benton County Administration Building.

“Vanessa’s care and compassion for others shine through daily,” said BFT General Manager Rachelle Glazier.

Walsh is being honored for performing CPR on a woman at the Three Rivers Transit Center on July 13. According to the BFT, a bystander asked Walsh for help when a woman stopped breathing and she left her bus and performed CPR on the woman.

Walsh learned CPR as part of her EMT training 20 years ago, however, she had never used it until that day according to the BFT. Walsh performed CPR and the woman was ultimately transported to the hospital.

“She was destined to be at the right place at the right time on July 13. Ben Franklin Transit is proud to have Vanessa as a part of the BFT family,” said Glazier.
