5 Wapato students uninjured after bus stop robbery

WAPATO, Wash.- The Wapato Police Department is increasing patrols near bus stops after five students were robbed while waiting at their bus stop.

According to a press release from WPD, the students were waiting for their school bus near North Wasco Avenue and West C Street, when a car with two men pulled up and asked for their shoes and belongings.

Students described the car as a dark blue hatchback with a Hispanic male exiting the car with a handgun. Another passenger was in the car and students say both were wearing blue clothing.

The students were uninjured as the car drove away when the bus neared the students.

WPD is working with the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office to investigate the case. Anyone with information is asked to contact WPD at 509-877-4275 or YCSO at 509-574-2500.
