SUNNYSIDE, Wash. – Two adults and three minors were detained for various charges including unlawful possession of firearms and possession of controlled substances on Tuesday evening, according to the Sunnyside Police Department.

SPD says three of the five exited a vehicle to confront an 18-year-old at Safeway at 6 p.m., reportedly threatening him with guns when he refused to give them his skateboard.

The victim called 911 as he attempted to leave the area. SPD says the call caused the suspects to retreat.

Later that evening, the 18-year-old went to Walmart with family members and saw the suspects in the store. SPD reportedly detained the suspects as they made their way to their vehicle.

After searching each suspect, SPD says a 12-year old, a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old were booked into jail and two adults, a 19-year old and a 26-year-old, were both charged.

A search of the vehicle found four firearms. The vehicle was reportedly involved in multiple firearm incidents in Yakima in the past.

The Yakima Police Department is reportedly continuing its investigation.

Charges vary for each individual and include robbery, assault, rendering criminal assistance, witness intimidation, unlawful firearm possession, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a stolen firearm.

SPD is continuing its own investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Shannel Perry-Strom at 509-836-6200.
