YAKIMA, Wash. – A Yakima Valley College student has been named to the All-Washington Academic Team for 2025. Claire Reid is one of 84 students from across the state to receive this honor. This recognition gives Reid a chance to be selected for the All-USA Academic Team.
In their second year at Yakima Valley College, Reid has distinguished themself through both academic and extracurricular achievements. Reid shared their perspective on service and hard work.
“I was raised with the idea of service in mind, and if there’s somebody that’s in need of help that we should do our best to help even if it means going out of our way,” they said.
The college, along with other community and technical colleges, nominates two students annually for the All-USA Academic Team. Reid’s selection is a testament to their dedication and perseverance.
“I pride myself on being very driven and persistent and understanding that if it doesn’t work out now, it doesn’t mean it won’t work out later,” they said.
Looking ahead, Reid plans to work in the humanitarian field and has expressed interest in teaching American Sign Language (ASL). This passion stems from their experience as a caretaker for their deaf grandfather, who did not know ASL.
“There was a big disconnect that was there. It was difficult enough that the experience that I heard elsewhere of people that had been deaf since birth, that was something that I wanted to aid in,” Reid said.
After completing their studies at Yakima Valley College, Reid intends to transfer to Central Washington University. Their commitment to helping others remains strong.
“My whole avenue is to help people no matter I can. And so being able to you know, even just be a listening ear or a helping hand, that’s important to me,” Reid stated.
Reid will be officially recognized for their accomplishments on April 24, 2025, at South Puget Sound Community College in Lacey. Later, two students from the state will be selected for the All-USA Academic Team.
