YHD launches Naloxone vending machines in Yakima

YAKIMA, Wash.- The Yakima Health District has announced Naloxone vending machines as a response to the growing opioid epidemic.

According to the YHD, Yakima County had 81 overdose deaths in 2022. Of those 81, 53 involved fentanyl or fentanyl/methamphetamine.

According to YHD, fentanyl is an opioid that is 100 times more powerful than morphine and 50 times more powerful than heroin and is a major contributor to fatal and nonfatal overdoses in the United States.

As a response to the opioid epidemic in Yakima County, the YHD will increase access to naloxone.

Naloxone is a life-saving medication that can reverse the effects of an overdose related to opioids. Naloxone is small and easy to use.

If you are with someone who is experiencing an overdose always call 9-1-1 first then administer naloxone.

YHD has purchased naloxone vending machines with Foundational Public Health Services.

These vending machines will be available at the Opportunities Industrialization Center Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 717 Fruitvale Boulevard, Yakima, Washington.

And at Yakamart seven days a week, 24 hours a day at Fort Road, Toppenish, Washington.
