YAKIMA, Wash.-The only thing harder than making it to the top is staying there, however, that’s just what the City of Yakima’s water has done after recently being voted the “Best Tasting Water in Central Washington” for the second consecutive year.

Yakima won the 2024 Central Washington Best Tasting Water contest against the Cities of Walla Walla, Richland, Pasco, Kennewick, and the Nob Hill Water Association, according to a City of Yakima press release.

“Winning this award two years in a row is a direct reflection of the hard work and dedication our water treatment and distribution employees – as with all of our Water/Irrigation Division employees – demonstrate every day,” said Water/Irrigation Manager Mike Shane.

Yakima’s water will now compete AWWA Section contest in Spokane, May 1-3 for a shot at the National AWWA conference June 10-13 in Anaheim, CA.

Yakima’s water treatment plant has also been awarded a Gold Certificate of Achievement from the state Department of Health for meeting high performance standards for ten continuous years, according to the City’s press release.

“They work hard to make sure we provide safe, high-quality and great tasting drinking water to our customers,” said Shane of Yakima’s irrigation and hydration heroes.
