YAKIMA, Wash.- Scam calls throughout Yakima County have prompted officials to caution the public about fraudulent ‘Warrant’ or ‘Subpoena’ claims.

According to the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office, residents have alerted officials to scam callers using “Deputy Marshall” or “Max James.” The scammers utilize ‘Spoof’ technology that enables the Sheriff’s office’s phone number to appear when calling. The scammers proceed to demand swift payment of fines over the phone.

Officials say that court officers, police officers, or Sheriff’s deputies will not call you about a warrant or subpoena or request any payment by debit, credit, gift cards, or money orders. Furthermore, officers will not call about warrants.
