Yakima Nation will receive $4 million in grants for river cleanup efforts

YAKIMA, Wash.- On Oct. 4, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regional director Casey Sixkiller announced a $6.3 million grant for the Columbia River Basin Restoration Program.

The Yakima Nation will also receive $4 million in grants for river cleanup efforts. These funds will be used to remove waste from two locations, a 12-mile stretch of the Yakima River and the Lyle Falls fishing area.

The Salmon-Safe program will receive $6.3 million to expand into the Columbia Basin.

“engage new farmers, ranchers, developers, and other land managers in voluntary actions to protect water quality, reduce toxics, and enhance climate resiliency in the Columbia Basin,” according to an EPA News Release.
