YAKIMA, Wash. – The Yakima Humane Society announced on Facebook on Friday its win in the 2024 March Muttness National Championship, a competition in which animal shelters across the nation battle to see who can raise the most funds to save homeless pets.

YHS met the Stray Rescue of St. Louis in the championship round of the tournament, receiving $71,948 between March 26 and 28 and winning by nearly $15,000.

A total of $136,000 was raised through the tournament, which the YHS says will help in the investment of spay and neuter programs.

Each donor will have their name etched in the YHS trophy case wall at the lobby of its adoption center.
