YAKIMA, Wash. – According to court documents, the Yakima Police Department arrested Julio Guzman for malicious mischief. Guzman, while sitting in jail, asked to speak to Detectives so he could confess to killing his mother. Police found Ana Guzman in her dining room on Friday, February 23.

According to the court documents, she had been strangled and stabbed.

The New Jerusalem Baptist Mission Church is just down the street from Guzman’s home.

Pastor David Scott said the crime rate is high in that area, and he and other neighbors had to install security cameras.

“We live in a world in which there’s life being born, and there’s life that’s going,” said Scott. “Whenever it’s something done by violence, something that’s not their time. That’s always a very hard thing.”

Scott said his goal with his church is to bring positive change to the area. Guzman made his first court appearance on Monday, February 26. He was charged with second-degree murder, among other charges.
