Wapato man arrested after wife shot during argument

WAPATO, Wash.-A Wapato man is behind bars, suspected of killing his wife during an argument on Sunday, October 22.

Yakima County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 2100 block of Ashue Rd. around 3:30 p.m. for reports of an argument between two grandparents and a gunshot.

According to the YCSO, when Deputies arrived at the home they found a woman in a bedroom dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

The dead woman’s husband and an adult grandchild were home at the time of the argument and shooting and both were interviewed by Detectives.

According to a YCSO press release a gun was fired during an argument, which resulted in the woman being shot. The woman’s husband reportedly admitted to shooting the gun.

Following consultation with the Yakima County Prosecutor’s Office, the man was booked into the Yakima County Jail on suspicion of Manslaughter in the 1st Degree.

An autopsy on the 74-year-old victim is scheduled for Tuesday, October 24.
