YAKIMA, Wash.-Yakima Valley College’s Veterans Program supports service men and women using their GI Bill benefits through more than 50 associate and bachelor degree options and more than 100 short-term certificates of achievement.

“YVC has been extremely successful in helping veterans of all ages succeed in a college atmosphere,” said Veterans Coordinator Chris Kinzell. “Our staff and advisors think very highly of the veteran population and tutoring and education and degree counseling is available to students.”

More than 500 veterans or veteran dependents have prepared or trained for new careers following military service through the Veterans Program, according to a YVC press release and the college has been designated a Military Friendly School.

Jeremy Allgaier, who served in the Army National Guard and is now studying to be a radiologic technologist, is one of the students who has benefitted from the Veterans Program at YVC.

“I give this advice from someone who started school at 36 — it’s never too late — if you have something you’d like to pursue that requires a degree, pursue it,” says Allgaier.

YVC’s Veterans Program offers support through the application and enrollment process, financial aid opportunities, mentoring and support for student veterans.
