Traffic moving again on westbound I-82 between Grandview and Sunnyside after semi-trailer truck fire

GRANDVIEW, Wash. –

UPDATE 7:18 p.m.

According to Joel Byam, Deputy Chief with Yakima County Fire District 5, all westbound lanes have been reopened on I-82 between Grandview and Sunnyside.

According to Joel Byam, a semi-trailer truck caught on fire after one of the rear tires on the semi popped. After pulling over to the shoulder of the road, the driver unhooked the trailer and pulled forward, but the fire had already spread to the trailer.

Fire crews responded and were able to extinguish the fire after blocking one of the westbound lanes near milepost 71.

No injuries were reported and tow trucks were able to remove the semi-truck and semi-trailer from the shoulder.

According to the Washington State Department of Transportation, drivers are experiencing delays on westbound I-82 between Grandview and Sunnyside.

WSDOT says a vehicle is on fire at milepost 71. Traffic heading westbound is reduced to a single lane.
