Toyota recalling some popular RAV4’s due to battery fire hazard

DETROIT, Mich.-Toyota announced that it will be recalling almost two million RAV4 SUV’s due to a problem with the battery that could potentially cause fires.

According to Toyota, some 12-volt replacement batteries installed in RAV4’s have small top dimensions and the hold-down clamps may not fully tighten, allowing the battery to move, which could result in the positive terminal contacting the clamp and short-circuit.

NBC News is reporting that 1.9 million RAV4’s spanning the model years 2013 through 2018 are affected by the recall and that Toyota will contact owners by December to fix the problem by replacing the hold-down clamp, battery tray and positive terminal cover.

Owners can check if their RAV4 is included in the recall online.
