The Top 3 Travel Destinations To Visit in 2024

0

Longwoods International American Travel Sentiment Study reports a record 93% of travelers are planning trips in the next six months.

Travel information site Places To Travel analyzed Google Trends data to establish the top vacation destinations of each state nationwide.

Whether you’re eager to join the festivities or prefer to avoid the tourist hustle and bustle, three destinations top the list for summer getaways in 2024: Italy, Hawaii, and the Caribbean.

Italy topped searches in ten states, Hawaii lands in second place, the top search in nine states, and the Caribbean sits in third place, with seven states choosing it as their top destination.

Italy

Jason Wilson, CEO of Places to Travel, shares his advice. “Immerse yourself in Italy’s impressive culinary landscape by embracing the local dining culture. Venture beyond tourist hubs and seek out authentic, Italian-run eateries where menus are in the local language. Take the time to enjoy multi-course meals and make the most of your experience with wine pairings, exploring regional specialties that define the unique tastes of each area.”

According to Olive Oil Times, culinary tourism rose by 37% in 2023 and isn’t slowing down. Whether visiting local farms, taking cooking classes, or tasting wine, countless culinary adventures await the boot-shaped country’s guests. Ahead of an Italy trip, experts encourage travelers to research their food culture, particularly surrounding coffee.

Tourists should anticipate added fees if they sit at a table to drink coffee, as most Italians stand while drinking their morning cappuccinos. Additionally, don’t bother trying to order that cappuccino after 11 a.m. Dream Beans Coffee says Italian shops have a standard cappuccino cut-off time.

To-go cups are predominately American, so plan to drink morning cups of joe at the cafe. Italians enjoy fraternizing around food and drink and have long mealtimes, even in restaurants. The waiter only brings the bill when prompted.

The menu will bear a service fee, which everyone at the table must pay. This “coperto” fee is standard Italian practice and is a flat rate charge for everything seen on the table, including any bread.

Lastly, tipping is optional in Italy. The waitstaff isn’t expecting a tip, but leaving one for exceptional service is OK.

Hawaii

Residents of New Jersey, California, Texas, Washington, and Alabama report Hawaii as their top destination. While Hawaii has 137 islands of varying sizes, in 2024, travelers typically stick to the islands of Kaua’i, O’ahu, Moloka’i, Lana’i, Maui, and the big island of Hawaii. Maui and O’ahu are notably popular among vacationers.

O’ahu

Home to most of Hawaii’s population, O’ahu offers bustling city life and laid-back, relaxing surf towns. Travelers can explore and enjoy Waikiki’s countless beautiful beaches.

“It is not surprising that The Aloha State ranks as one of the top searched travel destinations among Americans,” says frequent traveler and former O’ahu resident Monica Fish. “This beautiful chain of Islands has rainforests, volcanoes, national parks, deserts, and even the best beach in America.”

“But the beauty and diversity of the Islands is just the start of what draws 10 million people a year,” Fish continues. “Hawaii blends East and West cultures with its welcoming Aloha spirit. No matter what travelers seek in their next adventure, foodies, families, couples, or groups can find it in Hawaii without needing a passport.”

Maui

On the beautiful island of Maui, travelers can swim with sea turtles, see living reefs, and explore traditions and cultures belonging to the first Hawaiians. This island also offers opportunities for visitors with varied budgets.

The Hawaii Tourism Authority says the Maui wildfires negatively impacted Hawaii tourism. Those planning to visit Maui should practice patience as the island works to rebuild after the August 2023 fires. Support local businesses as much as possible. Avoid the especially affected Lahaina Town and abstain from taking photos. Show respect and stay clear of the area. Don’t ask waitstaff or other service staff about the fire or their experience; guests should keep the conversation light-hearted. Ask locals about hiking, surfing, snorkeling, parasailing, skydiving, helicopter tours, and whale watching.

The Caribbean

The beautiful islands of the Caribbean, some of which travelers don’t need a passport to see, ranked No. 3. Guests from Tennessee, Louisiana, Oregon, Utah, and Nevada revealed that the Caribbean is their ideal vacation destination.

Wilson reminds travelers to pack for the occasion.

“When gearing up for a Caribbean getaway, ensure your suitcase includes essentials tailored to the tropical climate. Think lightweight clothing crafted from breathable fabrics like cotton and linen. Consider packing comfortable shorts, breezy T-shirts, sundresses, and lightweight pants to easily navigate the tropical weather.”

Remember that the Caribbean has only two seasons: wet and dry. The dry season lasts from December through April, while the wet season lasts from May through November.

Seasons aside, take the time to research which Caribbean island you want to visit. Each island offers a unique experience that you will want to explore fully.
