Sunnyside students released after active shooter threat

SUNNYSIDE, Wash.-UPDATE. 2:45 p.m. According to a Facebook post made by Sunnyside School District, students will begin to leave the schools.

Sunnyside High School, Harrison and Sierra Vista will begin to release students with supervision of Sunnyside Police department.

Elementary students who ride the bus may be delayed by 30-45 minutes. Student who are picked up or walk will be released at this time.

According to the FBI it is a federal offense with the possibility of more than 2 years in prison.

2:40 p.m. According to a Facebook post made by Sunnyside Police Department, Sunnyside High School has been deemed safe.

Sunnyside PD is currently working to create a plan for controlled release of students.

2:30 p.m. All students and staff are safe according to a social media post from the Sunnyside School District.

Sunnyside High went into lock down around 1:25 p.m. according to the district after a 911 caller referenced an active shooter. Harrison, Pioneer and Chief Kamiakin entered into emergency protocols as a precaution.

Sunnyside Police responded and performed a sweep of the building and found no evidence of an active shooter or a gun according to the district.

The district expects to remain under lock down until Sunnyside Police releases the schools.

2:09 p.m. Law enforcement is currently responding to a 911 situation near Sunnyside High School.

Students at Sunnyside High, Sierra Vista and Harrison will not be dismissed until the lock downs and secure and teach protocols are lifted according to the Sunnyside School District.

People are also being asked to stay out of the area of Sunnyside High and Harrison Middle School while police continue to respond to the ongoing emergency situation.

1:49 p.m.

Sunnyside High and Harrison Middle School are currently locked down and Pioneer and Chief Kamiakin Elementaries are in Secure and Teach protocols according to the Sunnyside School District.

The lockdown was initiated at 1:26 p.m.
