Sunnyside City Council votes to terminate city manager

SUNNYSIDE, Wash. – In a 4-3 resolution vote by the Sunnyside City Council, City Manager Elizabeth Alba was terminated on Mon., Feb 12 at the city’s regular meeting, according to a press release.

The approved resolution said “that the City Council of the City of Sunnyside, Washington believes that the current City Manager’s priorities do not align with the majority of the Council’s.”

The termination was put into place at midnight on Feb. 12.

Alba was initially appointed as the interim City Manager on Sep. 13, 2021 after the resignation of the previous City Manager, then was appointed to serve as the City Manager on Dec. 12, 2022.

The press release says Alba will receive four months of severance pay and that the City will pay Alba’s medical and life insurance for three months following termination.

Public Works Director Raul Sanchez was appointed by the City Council as Acting City Manager for the next two weeks. A meeting is scheduled for Tue., Feb. 20 for the City Council to discuss recruitment options.
