Students at William R. Wiley return to class after smoke seen in classroom

WEST RICHLAND, WA – Firefighters were dispatched to William R. Wiley Elementary School at 12:34 p.m. after staff saw smoke coming from the ceiling of one of the classrooms.

Firefighters say the staff did a great job of evacuating all students and staff members, all of which are safe and accounted for.

The source of the smoke was an HVAC system failure above the classroom, which firefighters say is not uncommon. Students were cleared to return to their classrooms shortly afterwards.
