Stage 1 burn ban in effect in Yakima, Kittitas Counties

YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash.-A Stage 1 Burn Ban is in effect in Yakima County and a ban will go into effect in Kittitas County at 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 27.

According to the Yakima Regional Clean Air Agency, the use of uncertified wood stoves, inserts and fireplaces and all outdoor burning is banned in Yakima County until further notice.

The Stage 1 burn ban was issued due to air stagnation and poor ventilation that will be contributing to a build-up of air pollutants in the area.

In Kittitas County, the burn ban means that no uncertified wood stoves or fireplaces (except where wood is the only source of heat) will be allowed, according to Kittitas County Fire Protection District 6.

Outdoor or agricultural burning is also not allowed under the ban.

Under a Stage 1 Burn Ban:

The use of uncertified wood stoves, fireplaces, inserts and other uncertified solid fuel burning devices is prohibited.The use of certified wood stoves, pellet stoves and other certified wood-burning devices is allowed.All outdoor burning is prohibited throughout Yakima County.All violations of the burn ban are subject to civil penalty.

According to the Clean Air Agency, the burn ban may be upgraded or removed due to weather conditions.
