Selah-Naches Food Bank preparing for grand opening

SELAH, Wash.- A food bank for the Selah and Naches areas is getting ready to open and provide free food to families in need.

The Selah-Naches Food Bank is eyeing the end of February or the beginning of March to host a grand opening to officially open to everyone. The food bank is open temporary hours currently but is still trying to lock down official hours.

Currently, it’s open Mondays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon and Wednesdays from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The Wednesday night hours were created to be available to everyone who needs it.

“If you work a 9-5 job Monday through Friday, you couldn’t come to a food bank,” says food bank Board Member Bill Harris. “So, we wanted to open up secondary hours which enables more people to come see us.”

The food bank will differ from the standard bank that provides a set mix of donations to families. Consumers will be able to browse the aisles themselves and pick food that suits their family best.

“This is more of a shopping experience than receiving a box of food so people seem to like that better,” says Harris.

The new building is also set up with an attached warehouse allowing the volunteers to limit the handling of food before it gets to families.

The food bank is run by volunteers and if you are interested in participating, contact Kris Espinoza at 206-406-2915
