RICHLAND, Wash.-The Richland Police Department has relaunched its Traffic Unit to respond to vehicle and roadway incidents throughout the city.

Along with a crime analyst, the Traffic Unit will allow for increased police visibility, coverage and response to traffic incidents in an effort to reduce DUI’s, reckless driving, collisions, injuries and deaths on Richland’s roads.

The ultimate goal of the Traffic Unit is community safety according to the RPD, with three goals for keeping drivers on Richland’s roads safe: education, engineering and enforcement.

As an educational resource the Traffic Unit will work with the community to illustrate the efforts being taken to keep Richland safe. The Unit will also work with the City of Richland on traffic planning projects and will provide safety education training for the community according to the RPD.

Engineering wise, traffic data will be used to determine the best deployment of resources and the RPD has created a new webpage and an email address for the community to report traffic safety issues at traffic@ci.richland.wa.us.

The Traffic Unit will also help enforce traffic rules and regulations throughout the city.
