KITTITAS COUNTY, Wash. – A Pierce County man received a Citizen Commendation from Kittitas County Sheriff Clayton Myers on Tuesday for helping in the arrest of a vehicle theft suspect.

On March 3, KCSO says a deputy tried to arrest a Seattle man at a gas station in Easton. The man reportedly ran away and the deputy fractured his knee in the chase.

The suspect tried to steal another car and the deputy was struggling to arrest him, however Steven Pearson ran over to help by holding the man in place to be handcuffed.

The Seattle man is facing charges for stolen vehicle possession and resisting arrest. The deputy made a full recovery and is back in service.

“Effective crime fighting is always a partnership between a community’s civilians and its law enforcement professionals,” said Myers. “In this incident, Mr. Pearson embodied that partnership in the most literal way.”
