One dead after westbound I-84 crash near Boardman

BOARDMAN, Ore.-

UPDATE 11/29 3:54 p.m.

Oregon State Police has confirmed one man is dead and another is in the hospital with critical injuries.

OSP reports a Kia Sorrento heading west was merging in traffic lanes because of another crash, when a truck rear ended the car in the fast lane.

The car was carrying four people. The driver and another passenger suffered minor injuries. One passenger was declared dead at the scene and the other is now in the hospital.

The driver of the truck was treated at the scene for injuries.

I-84 was restricted for around three hours was OSP, Boardman Fire, Morrow County Sherrif’s Office and ODOT assisted at the scene. The investigation is still underway.

UPDATE 4:12 p.m.

According to Oregon Department of Transportation’s Vicki Moles, the right lane on westbound I-84 near milepost 167 is now reopened.

UPDATE 10:33 a.m.

According to a social media post made by the Oregon Department of Transportation, westbound I-84 at milepost 171 is now open.

One lane at milepost 167 will remain closed. Watch for workers and drive carefully.

The westbound lanes of I-84 are closed near Boardman due to a crash.

According to TripCheck, the crash and closure is three miles east of the intersection with Columbia River Highway US30 near milepost 171.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area if possible.
