One dead after Oregon State Police traffic stop in Polk County

POLK COUNTY, Ore.- According to a news release sent by Oregon State Police, an investigation is underway for an officer-involved shooting.

According to OSP, On Saturday, September 30 around 1:30 a.m. an Independence Police Officer attempted to pull someone over for a traffic stop.

Then the suspect drove off and began a police pursuit.

The car chase ended after spike stripes were deployed according to OSP.

The spike strips disabled the car as the suspect then began to run away on foot.

Officers quickly located the suspect after he attempted to run away into another vehicle that had two occupants.

The suspect then opened fire on responding officers and hit a Polk County Deputy.

Several officers then fired back at the suspect and the two occupants in the new car.

According to WSP. the original suspect is unharmed and has been arrested.

One of the car occupants was injured by officer gunfire according to OSP.

And the other occupant is dead as a result of officer gunfire according to OSP.

According to OSP, there is no danger to the public at this time.

This is an ongoing investigation and further details are not available
