Nonprofit Spotlight: Friends of the Mid-Columbia Libraries

TRI-CITIES, Wash. – Friends of the Mid-Columbia Libraries is a nonprofit that helps fund activities and resources for Mid-Columbia Libraries that tax dollars don’t pay for. FOL fundraises and hosts activities in hopes of enhancing people’s library experience.

Sara Schwan, the Advocacy and Development Manager for FOL, said the local chapter is very passionate about getting children reading.

“The Friends raise money and then they are able to give funds to the library so then we can purchase books and prizes to really empower kids to start reading early,” said Schwan.

Wednesday, April 24 through Sunday, April 28 FOL will host a book sale at the Kennewick Library. Schwan says the sale is refreshed daily so there is always something new.

FOL is also hosting Día del niño y los libros (Children’s Day/Book Day) at libraries across the region this month. Schwan encourages people to come out, meet with community partners, connect with the library and get resources and receive prizes that have been purchased by the Friends.
