YAKIMA, Wash.- It’s fair season in Yakima as the Central Washington State Fair opens on September 22. This year’s event will have new opportunities across the fairgrounds, specifically with the food vendors.

The CWSF Board of Directors’ President, Kathy Kramer, previewed the upcoming new food items on Thursday, including a pork chop on a lollipop, a Texas corn dog and a pizza with pickles.

But there’s one new item that has been piquing interest that puts a spin on a classic hamburger.

“It does not have a bun,” said Kramer. “The bun is a Krispy Kreme donut and I’m telling you the sweet and savory, it works.”

Don’t worry if the unique burger doesn’t fit your menu. There will still be the fan favorites in corn dogs and funnel cakes.

Also joining the Krispy Kreme burger and pickle pizzas are two new faces of the fair.

An apple and cow mascot have been introduced to the fairgrounds. The decision for the mascots come with an agricultural community in mind.

“They’re one of the top commodities, apples and dairy cows and milk are one of the top commodities to the valley and what a better way to bring to life what we do in the valley with these mascots,” said Kramer.

The mascots have yet to be named. That will also come from the community, as a contest is open to submit identities for the mascots.

Kramer says the names will be unveiled on the last day of the fair, October 1 at the Pacific Power Community Stage.

The winners of the contest will received perks for the 2024 fair of:
