Mount Sentinel’s M Trail will close to hikers in May

MISSOULA, Mont. – The popular hiking trail leading up to the M on Mount Sentinel will be closed for improvements from May 3-11.

Improvements to the trail will include extending three sections on the lower part of the trail to make it slightly less steep, helping to prevent such quick erosion, according to a university press release.

Hikers looking to reach the M will still be able to do so from the trailhead following the north-facing ridge of Mount Sentinel, the release says. Only the switchbacks will be closed.

Trail crews working with the university are seeking volunteers to help guide hikers to the appropriate detours during the main trail closure. Those interested in volunteering can sign up here.
