MarJon Beauchamp: From Yakima to the NBA

YAKIMA, Wash.-The path from Yakima to the NBA has been a winding one for MarJon Beauchamp, but he has never forgotten where he came from.

In his second season with the Milwaukee Bucks, Beauchamp has already experienced the highs and lows of life in the NBA.

“Every time I get out there, it’s a test to me ya know just to do the things I’ve been working on,” Beauchamp said of his playing opportunities.

The 24th overall selection in the 2022 NBA draft is playing for his third coach in two years, has had moments of greatness, including pouring in 19 points and snagging 8 rebounds on his late grandfather’s birthday in a Nov. 2022 game, however, he has also struggled to get on the court at times as a bench player.

One constant in Beauchamp’s NBA journey is an appreciation for his Yakima roots.

The budding NBA star has returned many times, including to have his No. 13 jersey retired by Yakima Valley College in 2023, and he recently visited Adams Elementary.

“Just thankful I’m in a position to do this,” said Beauchamp of being able to surprise students and teachers at his old elementary school with gifts.

From Yakima to the NBA hardwood, Beauchamp’s commitment to his hometown and championship mindset haven’t changed.

“Just staying ready, ya know,” Beauchamp said. “Staying prepared.”
