YAKIMA, Wash. – A man from Yakima is set to be sentenced in a drive-by shooting case from 2022 according to court documents.

Court documents say 28-year-old Austin Butler allegedly drove to the residence of Angel Lopez at 3:41 a.m. of March 4, 2022, and shot him after an argument which allegedly stemmed from Lopez messaging Butler’s girlfriend with intent to meet.

After investigation, which included tips sent to Yakima County Crime Stoppers, Lopez providing messages between himself and Butler’s girlfriend and surveillance footage, Butler was identified as the shooter according to an affidavit of probable cause.

The affidavit says Butler was a ten-time convicted felon with previous charges including assault and robbery.

On March 29, 2022, Butler was charged with Attempted First Degree Murder, First Degree Assault, Drive-By Shooting and First Degree Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. He was arrested over a week later on April 7.
